Dietary and Nutrition Advice

Updated: Feb 17

Want to learn about diet and the impact of nutrition on well-being?

DAO Holistic Wellness offers nutrition consultation and advice drawing upon Ayurvedic, Chinese, and Western sciences of food and longevity. If you want a nutritional focus in your DAO Holistic Wellness consultation, simply keep a food journal for a week or longer before your consultation. In addition to this, read all ingredient labels and see if you can identify where it fits into nutrition, as a carbohydrate, a fat, a protein, a micronutrient, a phytonutrient, or something else. If its not one of these, it is probably not an ingredient that belongs in the body. There is tons of stuff in packaged food that fits this category, preservatives, emulsifiers, dyes, natural and artificial flavors and more. Don't overstress this, worrying too much compromises adaptogenic resistance, just learn to minimize and moderate.

After becoming familiar with the Western system and its way of categorizing nutrients, delve into one of the alternative systems and learn how they see nutrients. In Ayurveda, foods are categorized by the tridosha system. In Chinese medicine, foods are categorized through Five Elements, having one flavor or a mix of several, and a nature that tends to be hot, cold, warm, or cool, they may also be damp or dry. Balance these types of foods as suited to your constitution.

The jury is still out on GMOs, while the ones that are on the market in the US undergo approval before release, the level of testing needed, as well as the trustworthiness of the bureaus behind the approval is questionable. In my view the primordial energy which is stored in food is altered when recombinant DNA technology is used, but this does not occur with selective breeding which is an entirely natural process. A common modification is Glyphosate resistance, Glyphosate does not directly affect animal signaling pathways, but it does block the shikimate pathway in plants and bacterial organisms, bacterial organisms being an important part of the human biome. The most common items containing GMOs are Corn products, Wheat products, and Soy products.

Knowledge is power, and the best way to have knowledge of whats going on in your body is to make your own meals with the ingredients you choose. Limiting packaged and pre-made foods and eating out. Like other forms of complementary and alternative medicine, individual essence is important and must be considered. The best nutrition doctor is your own body attuned to what its nutritional needs are. In addition to or in substitution for Reiki, Qi Gong, and other therapies, nutrition advice can become one of your tools for achieving your desired balance.
